The pesky ads and pop-ups that plague your browser whenever you try to access content are more than annoying. For many people, they are basically gatekeepers preventing users from even attempting to see anything stored on the website. If you do not want to experience all that hassle, just prevent your browser from showing them!
Blocking pop-ups in Chrome
Google Chrome is probably one of the most famous browsers thanks to the overwhelming market presence of the company in the web search market. Chrome is quite fast and offers a wide range of additional features that help you make browsing a fulfilling experience. Here’s how you can block pop-ups when using Chrome:
1. In the address bar, enter “chrome://settings/content/”
2. In
the next tab, search for the option labeled “Pop-ups” that will be
situated somewhere below. There are two variants that you can choose
from: either allow websites to show them or forbid them to show them.
3. In the same tab, you can manage exceptions to allow certain websites to show them or vice versa.
For users of Android-powered portable devices, the process will be slightly different:
1. Go to the settings in Chrome mobile’s main menu.
2. Navigate to the submenu labeled “Site settings” under the item “Content”.
3. Search for a separate listing “Pop-ups” and block them completely.
Blocking pop-ups in Edge
While some people still criticize the browser for its performance and
clunky interface, many owners of PCs prefer Edge to many other
browsers. How to block pop-ups in Edge?
1. Navigate to the Settings section of the main menu.
2. Search for the option labeled “Privacy and Security”
3. Below the security block, you will find the button called “block pop-ups”.
What should IE 11 users do?
One of the oldest browsers out there recently received its 11th
iteration. The browser is not as polished and performance-driven as
Chrome or Firefox, but it works. Here’s how you can block pop-ups in
this browser:
1. Tap the icon that resembles a simplified gear.
2. Go to the section of options related to the internet.
3. In the menu, search for the Privacy section and look for the button that activates the app named Pop-up Blocker.

In the settings of the blocker, you will find a field that allows you
to enter URLs of websites that should be counted as exceptions.

Additionally, we recommend you to check out the list of options in the
special menu that dictates the level of blocking. There are three
options:
– Block every single pop-up (High).
– Block most pop-ups (Medium).
– Allow some of the pop-ups from websites that are considered safe (Low).
Blocking annoying pop-ups in Safari
If you are using the tabletop version of an Apple device, you will need to follow the instructions below:
1. In the main menu of Safari, search for Preferences.
2. Navigate to the submenu called “Security”.
3. In the new tab, locate the link saying “Block pop-ups”.
If you are using an iOS-powered device:
1. Open the settings section of the phone.
2. Search for the section responsible for managing Safari.
3. In the general section, locate the button that says “Block pop-ups” and activate it.
Working with Opera
Users of the app for desktop use will need to do the following:
1. Go to the menu tab (enter “opera://settings” in the address string).
2. Locate the section related to websites and look for Pop-ups. Disable or enable them.
3. If you need to set exceptions, go to the Manage Exceptions block.
For mobile users:
Open the settings and navigate to the part of
the menu that has “Advanced” settings. Be careful and only toggle the
“Block pop-ups” button.
For Mozilla Firefox users
1. In the list of preferences, search for the option “Block pop-up windows” and check the box next to it.
2. Enter the exceptions below if you need them.
Mobile users of Firefox:
1. Go to the main menu of the browser and scroll down.
2. Below, you will find the Block pop-up windows button. Switch it to ON.
